The First Full Workday of 2011 for Many People
Although we freelancers might take very little time away from work, this is the day when most employees go back after the delayed New Years Day statutory holiday. Welcome back.
I hope to see my latest articles posted at Environmental Graffiti today, or by tomorrow morning at the latest. One of the authors I follow there had a couple published yesterday.
On the home front, a couple of planned domestic disturbances will keep me from as full a day as may otherwise be expected.
Today I also need to start my "Running" blog. Yesterday I went for my first run of 2011; now I need to blog it. This will probably go to a different site, so I need to: review my notes on blogging sites; choose one; join it; and start learning their tricks too.
I also plan to clean out my DeHaan Services "_xref" page by moving the links to individual articles to separate daily blog entries. That one page is just too crowded.

Environmental Graffiti just published my "Was Santa Claus the First to Domesticate Reindeer?"
This hard-hitting exposé exposes the surprising truth that...well, you just have to read the article now that it is available.
Let's note that I had indeed hit the "publish" button in late December, but soon thereafter realized I had made an arithmetic mistake when calculating Santa's age. So I sent an e-mail to an editor, who arranged for the article to go back into my "draft" bin. But I suspect that my editor went on Christmas holidays before dealing with my revised version.
Anyway, let's see whether people find and read this article.
One of the first tasks is publicizing the article. I updated BlinkList, Delicious, Digg, EverNote, FaceBook, FolkD, Kirtsy, NetVibe, Receve. It, StumbleUpon and Xanga. While doing so, I also made sure I was up-to-date for my Squidoo lenses.
My own site, DeHaan Services, still awaits my tender ministrations. As noted above, I need to clean out the "_xref" page by moving links into my blog posts.

FreeLancer News Item
I have also spent some time bidding on a project for a private client using FreeLancer. It is a good site for project work. As with any bid-for-project site, four issues arise. First, a lack of good projects means I don't bid, so I don't work. Second, some clients need a lot of convincing before awarding a project. Third, my bids are not always winners, so I don't work. Fourth, sometimes multiple bids win and I am overworked.
By the way, I tried to use a numbered list for the previous paragraph. I could type, but not use cursor controls like backspace, up/down arrows or the mouse to retype. Yet another Weebly mystery.
