Feb. 3, 2011 is Opposed to Internet Metering
This Meter is Opposed to Metered Internet
Perhaps more accurately:
This is a big deal for the rest of us, because greed is unlimited. Eventually the rates could rise to even greater excess.
On the writing front: I still beavered away at my one client's business project.
- If you pay for an "unlimited" plan, then it should indeed give unlimited access
- If not, your service provider has to keep you informed as to your usage
- The major ISPs (Internet Service Providers) in Canada seem to have convinced the CRTC (Canadian Radio & Television Commission) to permit them to charge their users heavily for "excessive" Internet usage
- This probably has way more to do with fighting Netflix and similar video-over-Internet companies than about service bottlenecks.
This is a big deal for the rest of us, because greed is unlimited. Eventually the rates could rise to even greater excess.

News from Environmental Graffiti
Carob Flowers by JĂșlio Reis
Environmental Graffiti displays a graph of daily page-views for the month. Generally I have about 30 across my 30 articles.
This morning I thought that they must have lost the historical data, because it is a flat line from Dec. 31, 2010 through Jan. 30, 2011. Then I realized that Jan. 31, 2011 has over 3000 page-views.
It seems that Making an Environmental Choice between Chocolate and Carob scored thousands of page-views (2755) in one day. While exciting, the sobering truth is that the current monthly payment rate is $3.00/1,000 page-views. Obviously, this article has a limited seasonal value. Possibly it was a link on a popular news aggregation site. This article cannot possibly keep up its popularity forever. It will be interesting to see whether this article keeps up its popularity for another few days, through Valentine's Day, or longer.
On the other hand, I just ran a search for "chocolate carob" (no quotes). This article is 15th on the SERP; but my Choosing Chocolate or Carob as a Valentines Day Gift on Suite 101 is 4th. While the latter is also doing reasonably well among my 50+ Suite articles, it has the seasonal spike problem in the title. I'm surprised that the EG article is doing so well, without being in the top 10, and without any other obvious source of page-views.
Not that I'm complaining.
Flip that around: I have trouble making $5 for a pay-per-500-word-article basis. This one article has done as well as anything I do for clients, and has the potential for future earnings.
My previous spike in page-views from Environmental Graffiti came from a Kwanzaa article, which had been a headline in a news aggregation site. Its total page-views is about 1,000 fewer than the Chocolate/Carob article. Now I just need to hit "jackpots" on multiple articles on a consistent basis.
